About Flockpedia
Flockpedia is a field guide to backyard chicken breeds, kept by people who keep chickens. We built it because the breed information online is scattered across hatchery sales pages, dated PDFs, and forum threads, and the numbers rarely agree.
How we compile the data
Every breed profile is built from a single, uniformly-structured dataset. For each breed we record egg color and production, point of lay, weight, temperament, hardiness and more. Every figure is an honest range, never a single false-precise number. Egg counts and weights vary a lot between strains and sources, so a range is the truthful way to state them.
How we verify it
The four figures that vary most (weight, eggs per year, egg color and point of lay) are cross-checked against at least two independent sources before we treat them as final. Until a breed clears that check, its figures are shown with a visible “draft figures” notice. We show our work: every profile links its sources, and notes where those sources disagree.
